Turkiye’s trade sales volume increased by 9.6% in April 2025 compared to the same month last year, according to data released by the Turkish Statistical Institute. The growth was largely driven by a strong performance in the retail trade segment, which rose by 11.5% year-on-year. Wholesale trade also contributed to the annual gain, registering an 8% increase over April 2024.

Despite the year-on-year growth, trade activity showed signs of moderation on a monthly basis. Compared to March 2025, overall trade sales volume declined by 3.1%. This drop was primarily due to a 6.1% contraction in wholesale trade. However, retail trade volume posted a modest month-on-month increase of 2.8%, partially offsetting the overall decline.

A notable area of concern was the retail sales performance in the textiles, clothing, and footwear segment. Sales in this category fell sharply by 18.4% year-on-year and declined by 4.3% compared to the previous month. The continued weakness in this sector highlights ongoing challenges in consumer demand and market conditions.
